Thomas Ford

Biography

In service to Prince Henry and a composer who also served the Prince of Wales, Ford wrote a number of popular vocal airs, pavans, galliards, and instrumental fantasies. Among his airs were "There is a ladie, sweet and kind," and "Since first I saw your face". Though his church music was rather insipid, Ford comes forth as a technically proficient composer whose qualities vary as much as the diversity of his music. From counterpoint to lyric melodies Ford was perhaps one of the best composers in his day. ~ Keith Johnson
