Johann Jakob Froberger

Biography

Johann Jacob Froberger was a German composer and harpsichord virtuoso of the early Baroque era who traveled widely across Europe and adopted many of the current techniques and styles. Froberger spent much of his career at the Viennese court, though he ventured to Italy to study with Frescobaldi and made contacts with other musicians in France, the Netherlands, and England. His keyboard music represents a merging of traits of the High Baroque, and though they are not a direct influence, his collections of dance pieces anticipate the key-centered harpsichord suites of later composers, such as Bach and Handel.
