'Concerto for Violin, Rock Band, and String Orchestra’ is het eerste project dat voormalig R.E.M.-bassist Mike Mills onder eigen naam uitbrengt sinds die band in 2011 uit elkaar ging. Zoals de titel doet vermoeden betreft het een combinatie van rock en klassiek, waarin Mills’ popinstinct samenvalt met het majestueuze geluid van een strijkersensemble (MCS Ensemble) en een topviolist (Mills jeugdvriend Robert McDuffie). De samenwerking leidde tot een eclectisch, melodieus concert dat in geen concerthal ter wereld misstaat.
