Philip Glass: Piano Works

Extensive tours with Philip Glass’ solo piano works have given Jenny Lin’s playing of this music an air of authority. Her instinct for Glass’ style, finely tuned over her years of collaborating with the American composer, brings the subtlest colouring to the repeated, rippling arpeggios of “Metamorphosis No. 2” or the ceaseless rocking of the two longer works that conclude the programme: “Passacaglia for Solo Piano ‘Distant Figure’” and “Mad Rush”. Likewise, Lin’s lightest touch on the tiller leaves the manic monotony of “Modern Love Waltz” magically intact. All told, this remarkable pianist is one of the few musicians who is able to reveal these works’ rich humanity while simultaneously bringing their otherworldly beauty into sharp focus.
