Pianist Lisa Moore tackles work from Pulitzer winners John Luther Adams and Julia Wolfe along with pieces by emerging composers on her first solo full-length for Cantaloupe. Adams’ compositions—“Tukiliit", “Among Red Mountains" and “Nunataks”—are riveting, evoking natural vistas with their patient, idiosyncratic construction and Wolfe’s “Compassion” combines memorably stormy passages with a gentle close. Younger composers hold their own here, too: On “Orrizonte", an electronic backing part makes Missy Mazzoli's lyrical piano writing even more spellbinding. Throughout, Moore’s expressive technique—with, occasionally, vocals—shows why she’s regarded as a new-music virtuoso.
