Johannes Ghiselin

Biography

A singer in Florence, Ghiselin was later associated with the court of Ferrara. He accompanied Josquin from Paris to Ferrara in 1503 where they were joined by Obrecht to serve at the chapel of the court. By 1505 Josquin and Ghiselin had retunred to the Netherlands in order to successfully avoid the plague. He was a famed composer of his day writing nine masses, motets, and chansons. "De les armes" was a mass written with the hexachordal scale (hexatonic may be more appropriate) and demonstraed great skill using all the signs of mensuration. ~ Keith Johnson
