Kurt Atterberg

Biography

Except for a short period of study at the Stockholm Conservatory, Atterberg was a self-taught musician. He was educated at the Stockholm College of Technology and worked nearly his whole life in the patent office. Despite this, he managed to actively participate in the Swedish musical world as a composer, conductor and administrator for many musical and performing groups. Atterberg was one of the best and most prolific composers of his generation. He created many different kinds of music, the best of which are his symphonies and stage music. He incorporated impressionistic technique elements, polytonal elements and often made use of folk music in his work. ~ Lynn Vought
