Bruckner’s Third had a scandalous premiere, with only about 25 audience members left at its conclusion. Since then—thanks in part to Wagner's and Mahler's admiration of the piece—it's become accepted as the masterwork it is. Here conductor Andris Nelsons nails its tender and blazing transformations perfectly. Under his baton, the gigantic, brassy symphony blooms, reaching blazing heights and wilting with pure sentimental abandon.
