Rick Sowash

Composer Rick Sowash writes eclectic works rooted in tonal idioms. In addition to composing, he is known in his native Ohio as a writer, publisher, filmmaker, radio broadcaster, arts administrator, innkeeper, church musician, storyteller, and elected official. Sowash is the author of several books and is known across the state for his storytelling presentations to schoolchildren, performing for some 750,000 students. Several albums of Sowash's music have appeared under his own name, including Sanctuary at 3am (2005), Eroica (2006), and Rick Sowash: American Perennials (2011). By the mid-2020s, more than 20 of Sowash's compositions had appeared on recordings, including three clarinet trios on the Upland Trio's 2024 album Voyageurs: Three Trios for clarinet, cello, and piano by Rick Sowash.
