Duarte Lobo

Well-Known Works

Biography

The greatest contribution that Lobo made to the corpus of musical literature was a six volume set of liturgical music. Duarte was at the forefront of polyphony with an unsurpassed contrapuntal facility. He combined this ease with a subtle capacity to interpret textual data. Lobo was a master of the chapel at Evora and Lisbon but retired early with an intent to teach. His students included Almeida, Fernandes and Machado. ~ Keith Johnson
