Biography

Boris Skalsky was a member of the Washington, D.C.-based band Phaser, appearing on the EP Life and Illusion/Sway (2002) and the album Sway (2003). When Phaser broke up, Skalsky began working solo, adopting the group name Dead Heart Bloom, with a self-titled album released in 2006, followed by Chelsea Diaries in 2007. By 2008, Dead Heart Bloom had evolved into a full-fledged band with other members in addition to Skalsky, and over the course of that year the group released three EPs, Fall In, In Chains, and Oh Mercy. Skalsky then reverted to solo work, and on June 2, 2009, he digitally released his first "solo" EP under his own name, First Songs, via KEI Records. ~ William Ruhlmann
