Santiago Cañón Valencia

Biography

Cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia has championed South American music during the growth phase of his career but has also appeared widely in the U.S. and beyond. He won several prizes at the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia. Cañón-Valencia (sometimes billed as Santiago Cañón) made his recording debut in 2012 on the album Toru: Chamber Music by Martin Lodge by the New Zealand Chamber Soloists. The following year, he released his debut solo album, entitled Solo. In 2022, he was named a BBC New Generation Artist. Cañón-Valencia released the album Ascenso in 2022; the release earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Classical Producer (Elaine Martone).
