Mårten Jansson is active as a composer of choral music, choral conductor, and educator. Jansson taught music theory, voice, and conducting and directed the choir at the Bolandgymnasiet in Uppsala from 1995 to 2014. Since 1999, he has taught music theory and voice and directed the choir at the Kulturskolan in Uppsala. Jansson's compositional imagination was fired when he became the conductor of the women's choir, Carmen, in 1994. Jansson wrote many compositions for the choir and remained its director until it disbanded in 2010. In 2015, Jansson's Lo, how a rose was recorded by Cappella SF on their album Light of Gold. In 2018, Jansson and his publisher Bärenreiter organized an international competition for choirs; the first prize was a new work by Jansson written especially for the winning choir. In 2022, the prestigious small English choir Voces8 released the album Mårten Jansson: Requiem Novum.
