Biography

Adaskin served as the head of the music department and later as composer in residence at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. He received many commissions from the CBC as well as one from The National Arts Centre Orchestra for its inaugural concert, which resulted in Diversion for Orchestra. Adaskin is a meticulous craftsman of contrapuntal texture and non-symmetrical form. His work contains irregular rhythms and repeated chord patterns in the style of Stravinsky. His later work incorporates Canadian folk material that serves to illustrate the character of that country's land and cultures. ~ Lynn Vought
