Biography
John Corigliano (born 1938 in New York) is one of the most versatile and popular American composers of the late twentieth and early twenty first centuries. His music is essentially post-Romantic, but he is a genuine eclectic, using a wide range of contemporary techniques to meet his expressive ends. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including an Academy Award, the Pulitzer Prize, three Grammys, and the prestigious Grawemeyer Prize. His major works include his First and Second symphonies, the film scores for Altered States and The Red Violin, the song cycle Mr. Tambourine Man, and the opera The Ghosts of Versailles.
