Thomas Oehler
Biography
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I have an early memory of my dad playing Beethoven 9th from a vinyl, with the volume blaring from the old-fashioned but wonderful speakers, as he felt this music could only be enjoyed heroically loud. My mother was not too pleased about it though... What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? BBC Philharmonic, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Dutilleux: Complete Orchestral Works Les Musiciens du Louvre, Marc Minkowski, Rameau: Une Symphonie Imaginaire Royal Academy of Music Soloists Ensemble, The Glenn Gould School, Trevor Pinnock, Bach: Partitas (Re-imagined for Small Orchestra by Thomas Oehler) These three albums hint at very important influences which definitely shaped me as a composer. Dutilleux for his craft, Rameau for his elegance, and Bach... well for being the father of us all. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Watercolours” Deceptively simple but crafted with much love and care, I hope this piece to be an island of peace and soothing beauty in the midst of the madness of our time. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? The collaboration with Trevor Pinnock on the Bach Partitas Re-imagined album was a blast. The release of my first single (so much more to come!) for solo piano is tremendously exciting. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would like for my solo piano growing collection of tracks to reach the heart of many listeners, as I did craft them with much love and care. A tour with these pieces and meeting the public would be a dream.
