Kahchun Wong
Biography
Kahchun Wong is among the leading conductors in Southeast Asia and has been appointed to major posts in the West as well. He is also a composer, and when he was 17, his Zaqaedor Symphony was performed at the city's Esplanade Concert Hall by the Raffles Junior College Orchestra. In 2010, Wong founded and began conducting the Asian Contemporary Ensemble. In 2015, he made his debut with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In 2018, Wong began his first full-time conducting engagement, becoming chief conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. in Germany. He remained in that position until 2022, continuing to make guest conducting appearances with such groups as the Japan Philharmonic, who named Wong its principal guest conductor in 2021 and then, for a five-year term beginning in 2022, its chief conductor. He was appointed principal conductor and artistic adviser of the Hallé Orchestra beginning in 2024.
