Biography
Mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston is a figure who is adept in both traditional and historical-performance contexts, in repertories ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary music. She has won major awards and honors, including designation as a BBC New Generation Artist. Charlston spent four years as a choral scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge, making her first recordings with the choir under director Stephen Layton, starting with 2015's Yulefest! In 2017, she recorded an album of Bach cantatas with Amici Voices, a group she founded. Charlston's appearances as a soloist have featured both Baroque works and later music, in performance and on recordings with several ensembles. In 2025, she was heard on the album If the Fates Allow: Music by Purcell and His Contemporaries.
