Elena Ruehr

Composer Elena Ruehr has developed a highly eclectic style that engages with historical moments from the medieval period to the present. Her work has gained adherents both within and outside of academic settings. Ruehr is also a prominent educator, having taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1992. Her music has been unusually widely recorded for a composer from an academic setting, with more than 30 albums available as of the mid-2020s. In 2025, baritone Stephen Salters recorded Ruehr's Songs for Stephen. Ruehr has taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1992.
