Malmö Opera Orchestra

When the Malmö Symphony Orchestra became exclusively devoted to symphonic concerts in 1991, the Malmö Operaorkester ("Malmö Opera Orchestra") was formally separated from it. The ensemble masters a wide range of musical styles across classical opera, contemporary music dramas, ballet, and symphonic concerts. In 2025, the orchestra was featured on a Naxos recording of Shostakovich's theatrical works under conductor Mark Fitz-Gerald, documenting rare reconstructions of the composer's early scores.
