Biography
One of Germany's most prominent oboists, Gernot Schmalfuss has also had a significant career as a conductor. He has made a number of recordings in each capacity, and is a noted educator as well. Schmalfuss conducted the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan into his eighties, recording albums of music by little-known composers Theodor von Schacht and Franz Lachner. In 2025, he and the orchestra released the album Franz Lachner: Symphony No. 4; Andante for Brass Ensemble.
