Biography
A leading figure in the performance of early music, Stephen Stubbs has helped re-establish the art of the plucked string continuo instruments of the Baroque. With early music and his own ensembles, he has performed and recorded major productions of Baroque operas. Since 2003, Stubbs has been co-director of the Boston Early Music Festival, and in 2007, he created a new program called Pacific MusicWorks. Stubbs' 2014 album Charpentier: La Descente d'Orphée aux Enfers; La Couronne de Fleurs, with ensembles from the Boston Early Music Festival and Paul O'Dette, won a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording. In 2023, Stubbs played lute on the album Lovesick by countertenor Randall Scotting.
