Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra

The Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra has risen to national prominence in Brazil by featuring Brazilian music, much of it lesser-known, in its programming and recordings. The Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra (in Portuguese: Orquestra Filarmônica de Goiás) was formed in 1980 by conductor Braz de Pina Filho. Conductor Neil Thomson in 2014. He remained in that position as of the mid-2020s. The programming of the Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra is not restricted to Brazilian music exclusively; the group has given the South American premieres of such major modernist works as Olivier Messiaen's Des canyons aux étoiles. In 2022, it was heard on a recording of symphonies by Claudio Santoro. The orchestra released an album featuring Claudio Guerra-Peixe's A Retirada de Laguna in 2024.
