Jamie Akers

The musical journey of James Akers begins in Scotland, where an early fascination with guitar led him through rock, blues, and jazz before settling into classical repertoire, with a particular focus on Renaissance and Baroque repertoire. Active internationally since the early 2000s, his career is defined by sustained collaboration, participation in recordings on established classical labels, and continued engagement with historically informed performance practice on various early plucked instruments. His work illustrates the integral role of the continuo player in shaping the sound and interpretation of early music performance, and his playing reflects a measured approach, emphasizing balance and integration within the ensemble rather than foregrounded virtuosity. Collaboration with Chelys Consort of Viols has been a central strand in his career. Their second full album together, Les âges du monde, was released in 2026.
