Luís Toscano

Biography

Active as both an ensemble director and a singer, Luís Toscano is a major exponent of Renaissance Portuguese polyphony. He is director of the small vocal ensemble Cupertinos. Toscano had his first vocal training as a child chorister in the Coro dos Pequenos Cantores de Coimbra in Portugal. Much of the work Toscano did as a student became the basis for performances in his musical career. He joined the staff of the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation and assumed the directorship of its vocal group. Toscano and Cupertinos made their debut in 2019 with an album of choral music by Manuel Cardoso. In 2022, they released the album Pedro de Cristo: Magnificat, Marian Antiphons; Missa Salve regina; much of the music for that album had been unearthed and edited by Toscano himself.
