Daniel Schnyder

Biography

U.S.-based Daniel Schnyder is a composer and reed and woodwind player from Switzerland who is as comfortable playing and composing classical music as jazz. Secret Cosmos, his 1988 leader debut, offered jazz and classical fusion with the Modern Art Septet. It was followed by 1989's Decoding the Message and The City. 1991's Mythology showcased a quintet and string quartet. 1995's Nucleus offered an all-star jazz ensemble, while 1996's Tarantula was a work for jazz band, strings, and chamber orchestra. 2002's widely acclaimed Songbook was recorded with a symphony orchestra and Kenny Drew, Jr. 2003's Zoom In seamlessly melded avant jazz with modern chamber music. Worlds Beyond Faust, for trio, appeared in 2009. Following a handful of classical releases, Schnyder returned to jazz-classical fusion on 2014's Haendel in Harlem and 2015's Art of the Duo. 2023's Musique Juive en Suisses featured his compositions alongside a host of well-known Swiss composers.
