Biography

French cellist André Navarra was noted for refined performances and thoughtful and enthusiastic interpretations, in both solo work and chamber music. His career began in the 1930s and although he retired from teaching at the Paris Conservatoire in 1979, he continued teaching and recording into the 1980s. As such, he became one of the most influential European cellists of the 20th century, winning honors from the French government for his contributions to the arts.
