Lisa Illean

Composer Lisa Illean has seen her music performed and recorded in her native Australia and in Britain, where she traveled for further study and still lives. In her music, she strives, in her own words, for "a dance between two layers: music of understated lyricism combined with unusual, complementary sonorities." Illean is also an important educator. A recording of her works featuring the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Arcing, Stilling, Bending, Gathering, was issued in 2024 and became a classical best-seller. Illean teaches at the University of Cambridge and served as Composer-in-Residence at the Royal Academy of Music in 2021 and 2022.
