Florian Wittenburg

Biography

German pianist Florian Wittenburg was born in Berlin in 1973, and studied in the Netherlands during the '90s and (through a scholarship) in Paris in the 2000s. He worked with a number of artists in the fields of music, video, and sculpture during the latter period, including noted Russian theremin virtuoso Lydia Kavina and Dutch pianist Nico Huijbregts. Huijbregts appeared on Wittenburg's 2013 album Sympathetic, (A)Symmetric: New Music for Piano (which includes a suite partly inspired by Morton Feldman's concept of "crippled symmetry"), improvising on three pieces centered around drones and melodies created by Wittenburg with piano and E-Bow. ~ Dave Lynch
