Biography
Eight compositions by Velut survive probably from the early fifteenth century. The works include mass movements, motets, and chansons. All of the surviving pieces were scored for three voices. The secular works are distinguished by their cross-rhythms, syncopation and metrical units in the ratio of 3:2. The motets are also demarcated by isorhythms and interrupted rhythms for reasons of emphasis. Cadences appear often in Velut's works as do treble dominated settings. ~ Keith Johnson
