Biography
Dmitry Liss is widely regarded as the architect of the modern Ural Philharmonic Orchestra and a custodian of the Russian symphonic tradition. Known for a conducting style that balances surgical precision with a deep, intellectual grasp of large-scale structures, Liss has spent over three decades elevating regional Russian music to the global stage. While his roots are firmly planted in the rigorous Soviet school of conducting, his career has flourished through a distinctive openness to European styles, leading to significant tenures in both Russia and the Netherlands and a recording catalog that spans from the Romantic masters to the avant-garde. Following Rachmaninov symphony recordings, he released Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony in 2025.
