Stephan Moccio

Biography

Stephan Moccio is a Canadian composer, pianist and producer whose career bridges chart-topping pop songwriting and a growing body of solo piano work. Born in 1972, he first broke through in 2002, co-writing Celine Dion’s “A New Day Has Come”, before going on to co-write hits including Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” and The Weeknd’s “Earned It”, which earned him three Grammy nominations in 2015. Moccio has since developed a parallel identity as a solo pianist, releasing Tales of Solace and Winter Poems in 2020, followed by Lionheart in 2021. His 2024 album Legends, Myths and Lavender, a suite of 17 piano miniatures exploring mortality, family and identity, was composed during a month-long stay at Miraval Studios in Provence, France. His fourth studio album, Scenes from a Velvet Room (2026, Decca), was inspired by his time as a pianist at Toronto’s Four Seasons Hotel, and blends a laid-back, jazz-inflected style with three duo tracks featuring saxophonist Branford Marsalis.
