Mauro Valli

Biography

Mauro Valli is a cellist who began his career with the standard repertoire, but later moved to historic instruments and performance practice. After winning multiple competitions, Valli joined the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala, where he performed under conductors Leonard Bernstein, Carlos Kleiber, and George Prêtre, among others. He then devoted himself exclusively to chamber music and Baroque performance, serving as a founding member of Accademia Bizantina and the first solo cello of Barocchisti di Lugano. In 2026, he released Bach on Nine Strings with cellist Mario Brunello, performing Bach's music on two violoncelli piccoli -- one with four strings and one with five -- on the Arcana label.
