Nils Anders Mortensen

Biography

Norwegian pianist Nils Anders Mortensen is a native of Flekkefjord, and he began studying music at age three. He was the winner of the Norwegian Young Pianist Competition in 1986. He attended the Norwegian Academy of Music, the École normale supérieure in Paris, and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, where he studied with Einar Steen-Nøkleberg. He received further training from Tatjana Nikolajeva and Hans Leygraf. He won the Debutant of the Year Award of Concerts Norway in 1996, and he received the Mozarteum Prize in 1998. Mortensen was also awarded the Robert Levin Memorial Prize in 2004, and he received the Nordlys Award in 2013. He has recorded for BIS, 2L, and Lawo Classics. ~ Blair Sanderson
