Metropolis Ensemble

Biography

The New York-based Metropolis Ensemble has proven astonishingly effective at bringing new music to the stage, commissioning more than 450 works. The group has a wide range of creative collaborators, including many from outside the realm of classical music. Metropolis Ensemble was formed in 2006 by conductor Andrew Cyr. The group does not have a fixed membership but rather comes together according to the requirements of specific pieces and concert projects. In 2010, Metropolis Ensemble released its debut album, featuring concertos by composer Avner Dorman. Metropolis Ensemble has a long list of collaborators, particularly those whose music is difficult to classify. These have included producer and DJ ?uestlove and violinist Emily Wells. The group has issued several albums, including Tyondai Braxton: Telekinesis in 2022. In 2024, it issued the album Timo Andres: The Blind Banister.
