Biography
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my earliest musical memories is a small toy grand piano I received as a child, barely spanning one and a half octaves. I traced melodies from the radio with one finger. That moment shaped my lifelong bond with the instrument. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Collegium Vocale Gent, Philippe Herreweghe, J. S. Bach: Matthäus-Passion, BWV 244 Glenn Gould, Glenn Gould: A State of Wonder - The Complete Goldberg Variations (1955 & 1981) Vladimir Horowitz, Vladimir Horowitz - The Last Romantic I return to Horowitz for his unmatched depth of interpretation, a constant artistic benchmark for me. Gould’s Goldberg Variations are essential listening, while Bach’s St. Matthew Passion is where I feel most at home – a place of inner peace. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Frédéric Chopin: Nocturne in E-Flat Major, Op. 9, No. 2” This recording of Chopin’s Nocturne in E-flat major was made live in 2010 at Schloss Eichhofen in Bavaria. Over time, it reached a wide audience online, and I still feel it captures a rare, organic moment of musical expression. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? One of the most memorable moments in my career was realizing how widely one of my Chopin recordings had been heard. At a certain point, the number of listeners exceeded the population of the United States – something I still find quietly remarkable. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would love to record a few large-scale works that have accompanied me for years, especially late Beethoven and Schubert. These are pieces I continue to grow into, and I feel there is still much to discover in them.
