Les Épopées ("The Epics") quickly established itself on the French early music scene with its historically informed performance practices. Consisting of a choir and orchestra, Les Épopées specializes in Baroque period music, highlighting especially the rightly "epic" operas and other large-scale works of composers Jean-Baptiste Lully and Claudio Monteverdi. Another important aspect of the ensemble is an educational arm, with young musicians learning historical performance practices under founder and conductor Stéphane Fuget, with former students making up more than 40 percent of the ensemble's membership. Les Épopées, under Fuget, has issued four volumes dedicated to the grands motets of Lully, releasing the fourth volume as well as a recording of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo in 2024.
