Biography
La Tempesta is a Normandy-based period-instrument ensemble founded and directed by violinist-conductor Patrick Bismuth, specializing in 17th and 18th century repertoire. The ensemble has earned widespread critical acclaim for its recordings, garnering tributes including Choc designation from Le Monde de la Musique and five Diapasons from the French magazine Diapason. La Tempesta is celebrated for its boldly original programming, juxtaposing Biber's virtuosic violin works with Central European folk traditions, exploring psalms by Salomone Rossi, and most notably, re-discovering and premiering André Campra's opera-ballet Le Destin du Nouveau Siècle in 2017. The ensemble performs as either a small chamber group or expanded chamber orchestra, combining instrumental and vocal baroque music with a relentless mission to resurrect forgotten works.
