Biography
Since Vox Luminis’ debut in 2004, with alumni from the Netherlands’ Royal Conservatory of the Hague forming the backbone of their original configuration, the multi-award-winning vocal ensemble has been giving head-turning performances specialising in repertoire from the 17th and early 18th centuries. Directed from the outset by Lionel Meunier, the group based in Namur, Belgium, has earned a gold-standard reputation for its distinctive blend of impeccable sensitivity and historically informed open-mindedness across music. Their touchstones range from unsung heroes Andreas Hammerschmidt and Caspar Othmayr to more familiar fare by Charpentier, J.S. Bach and Purcell, with the latter’s King Arthur & the Fairy Queen a firm favourite of the ensemble. In 2022, Vox Luminis undertook residencies at London’s Wigmore Hall and the Concertgebouw in Bruges while maintaining an extensive concert schedule outside their Belgian home; they also announced a major ongoing collaboration with the world-renowned Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.
