Leokadiya Kashperova

Biography

Leokadiya Kashperova was one of the most accomplished Russian pianists and composers of her generation, admired for her sensitive musicality and technical brilliance at a time when few women achieved recognition in the music professions. Her compositions range from the lovely solo piano set, Au sein de la nature, to orchestral works and chamber pieces. In them, she drew on the traditions of the Russian Romantic approach while showcasing a sophisticated individual voice. Recordings of Kashperova's pieces include Sarah Cahill's performance of her "Le murmure des blés" on an album of piano music in 2022 and Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin's recordings of her Piano Concerto Op. 2 and Symphony Op. 4. Igor Stravinsky took piano and basic composition lessons from Kashperova and remembered her with respect in his autobiographical writings.
