Ensemble Galilei

Since 1990, the U.S.-based Ensemble Galilei has combined Celtic folk, early music, and original pieces to illustrate stories of particular places, people, or times. This small ensemble performs music from a wide range of classical and folk traditions, including works created especially for the group. Ensemble Galilei has a substantial recording catalog issued on various labels, such as its own Ensemble Galilei imprint. In 2025, the group issued the album There I Long to Be. As of the mid-2020s, the permanent members were Carolyn Surrick (viola da gamba), Sue Richards (Celtic harp), Isaac Alderson(whistle, flute, and uillean pipes), Jesse Langen (guitar), Kathryn Montoya (recorder, shawm, and whistle), and Jackie Moran (banjo and bodhran).
