Lars Jansson

A highly-regarded Swedish jazz pianist, Lars Jansson blends post-bop, classical and Nordic traditions. An in-demand sideman since the 1970s, he has worked with luminaries including Arild Andersen, Radka Toneff, Jan Garbarek, and others, building a reputation across Scandinavian jazz. He is best known for leading his own trio, notably on The Eternal Now, following earlier releases like Trio 84, with longtime collaborators including Anders Jormin and Lars Danielsson, and later Thomas Fonnesbæk and Paul Svanberg. Alongside extensive trio work, Jansson also recorded in larger settings, including the sextet date Giving Receiving with Paolu Fresu, and with ensembles like the Bohuslän Big Band. In recent years, he has moved between trio dates and collaborations, as on 2023's Garden of Sounds with Thomas Agergaard, 2024's What the Moment Brings with Erik Söderlind, and 2026's Without Even a Thread of Clothing with Jesper Bodilsen.
