Heinz Hennig
Biography
Conductor Heinz Hennig founded the innovative Knabenchor Hannover boychoir and led it for many years. Under Hennig, the group became one of the first children's choirs to develop an interest in early music, working extensively with several leading historical performance ensembles around Western Europe. Hennig and the Knabenchor Hannover released major recordings of Bach cantatas and of the music of Heinrich Schütz that continue to gain new listeners. He was also a significant educator. Hennig's recordings have often been reissued since he died on January 29, 2002. An album of masses by Marc-Antoine Charpentier with the Knabenchor Hannover and organist Ton Koopman appeared on the Hänssler Classic label in 2024.
