Thea Musgrave

Thea Musgrave (born 1928, Thornton, Midlothian, Scotland) is one of the most important Scottish composers of the second half of the 20th century. She has written in most musical forms, but for the bulk of her career she has concentrated on opera. Stylistically, her work is eclectic, employing elements of serialism, experimental traditions, and pastoral lyricism. Her operatic works include The Voice of Ariadne; Mary, Queen of Scots; A Christmas Carol; and Harriet, the Woman Called Moses. Other important works include her concertos for clarinet, horn, viola, and oboe, and the orchestral works The Seasons and Turbulent Landscapes.
