James Horner

Biography

James Horner began playing piano at age 5, and spent part of his childhood studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London. ∙ His breakthrough film score was for 1982’s Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. ∙ His résumé includes collaborations with such cinema icons as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Ron Howard, George Lucas, and Terrence Malick. ∙ Horner was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning two for his work on Titanic. ∙ His score for Titanic is the biggest-selling orchestral soundtrack of all time. ∙ Horner wrote the opening theme to CBS Evening News, which was used during Katie Couric’s tenure as anchor. ∙ Aside from his film work, Horner composed several symphonic pieces, including Collage, a concerto that premiered at London’s Royal Festival Hall in 2015.
