Fred Thomas
Biography
British pianist/multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and educator Fred Thomas is a musical polymath. He is equally at home in classical music, modern jazz, improv, indie pop, electronica, and more. In addition to leading his own projects, he is a first-call sideman and collaborator. Thomas played with Ultimo Tango on 2004's Plays Astor Piazzolla. In 2007, he joined Loop Collective and released Twelve Tales from Abbey Road. In 2011, he produced Iarla Ó Lionáird's hit solo album Foxlight. In 2015, he issued Electrofeit, offering organ interpretations of J.S. Bach compositions, and followed with Dance Suites in 2017, performing the composer's works on piano. Thomas made his ECM debut with Elina Duni's quartet on Lost Ships in 2020, and the following year he made his leader debut for ECM New Series with Three or One, offering 24 Bach pieces played in trio and solo piano settings.
