Mike Batt
Biography
U.K. songwriter Mike Batt’s early success came courtesy of the Wombles, a children’s television program that spawned several hit singles including "The Wombling Song" and "Remember You’re a Womble." His successes under his own name were mixed. He had a number four hit with "Summertime City" in 1975, but subsequent releases sank without a trace. In 1979, Art Garfunkel topped the U.K. charts with Batt’s song "Bright Eyes" (from the movie Watership Down). Three years later, David Essex took "A Winter’s Tale" to number two. Batt’s 1991 musical, The Hunting of the Snark, closed after only seven weeks following a series of vicious reviews. Batt bounced back into the public eye in 2003, as the Svengali behind Katie Melua. ~ Rovi Staff
