Kellen Gray
Biography
African American conductor Kellen Gray's activities extend from his native American South to the British Isles. He is the assistant conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, with which he released his debut album in 2022. From 2014 to 2016, Gray served as assistant conductor of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra. A breakthrough came when he became a Project Inclusion Freeman Conducting Fellow in Chicago. The position led to an assistant conductor position with the Chicago Sinfonietta under music director Mei-Ann Chen. In 2021, Gray added the position of assistant conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to his resume. With that group, he released his debut album, African American Voices, including orchestral works by William Grant Still, George Walker, and the neglected William Levi Dawson.
