Andrei Petrenko

Biography

Among Russia's leading choral conductors, Andrei Petrenko has participated as chorus master in numerous operatic productions at St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre. He is also a significant educator and has performed periodically in the West. From 1994 until 2000, Petrenko was the artistic director of the Smolny Cathedral Choir in St. Petersburg. Petrenko began notching recording credits in the early 2000s with tenor Plácido Domingo's four-volume series of tenor arias by Verdi. Petrenko became the chief choirmaster of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg in 2000. He remained in that position for much of the next two decades. Petrenko became the artistic director of the Yekaterinburg Philharmonic Choir in 2015 and opera production assistant to the artistic director of the Mikhailovsky Theater in 2021. Petrenko released the album Russian Choral Concertos: An Introduction with the Yekaterinburg Philharmonic Choir in 2024.
