Capella Cracoviensis
Biography
Poland's Capella Cracoviensis, comprising orchestral and choral elements, has specialized in performances of music from the Renaissance to Mozart, occasionally extending the period covered as far as the Middle Ages and the contemporary era. Since 2011, it has played on historically appropriate instruments after switching, with the move attended by much controversy, from modern ones. The switch took place at the insistence of music director Jan Tomasz Adamus, who had been in his position since 2008. Already having a reputation as one of Poland's top Renaissance and Baroque ensembles, after the switch the orchestra's international reputation has arguably risen, with recordings on the labels Dux, Alpha, Avi, and Decca. ~ James Manheim
